Detailed Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Kapkwai Gate to Tutum Cave Camp (2,667m)
The trek begins at Kapkwai Exploration Centre at an elevation of 2,050 meters. After registration and safety briefing, you will start hiking through montane forest and scenic landscapes toward Tutum Cave Camp. This first day focuses on gentle acclimatization and gradual ascent. You will arrive in time for lunch and rest before dinner and overnight stay at the camp. Overnight: Tutum Cave Camp
Day 2: Tutum Cave Camp to Kajeri Camp (3,383m)
After breakfast, you continue ascending through bamboo forests and open moorlands. As altitude increases, vegetation changes and mountain views become more expansive. You will arrive at Kajeri Camp in the afternoon, where you will rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for higher-altitude trekking. Overnight: Kajeri Camp
Day 3: Kajeri Camp to Mongongo Camp (3,600m)
This day takes you into alpine zones near the caldera. The trail offers panoramic views and unique volcanic features. The gradual ascent supports further acclimatization. You will reach Mongongo Camp in the afternoon and settle in for dinner and overnight rest. Overnight: Mongongo Camp
Day 4: Mongongo Camp to Wagagai Peak (4,321m) to Dubi Camp (3,600m)
Summit day starts early. After breakfast, you hike through Jackson Pool and along the caldera ridge toward Wagagai Peak. Upon reaching the summit at 4,321 meters, you will enjoy breathtaking views across Uganda and Kenya before descending to Dubi Camp. This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek. Overnight: Dubi Camp
Day 5: Dubi Camp to Bushiyi Gate (1,800m) – Departure
After breakfast, you descend through Shiloko Camp and continue to Bushiyi Gate. Lunch is served along the way before exiting the park. At the gate, boda bodas or your driver will transfer you to your vehicle. You may continue to Mbale, Sipi Falls, or your next destination for relaxation and recovery. End of Trek
